Which computers does Perspective support?

Perspective supports most popular computers, we recommend the following as minimum requirements:

Windows PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Macintosh running OS X 10.6

* iPad devices do not support Adobe Flash and Shockwave. Therefore some learning resources, which are Flash-based, will not display on iPad.

What are the recommended browsers for Perspective?

To get the best performance possible while visiting Perspective, we recommend the following as minimum requirements:

Regardless of which browser you use, make sure that you have JavaScript, cookies, and Java enabled. These features are the default settings when you install a new browser and should already be activated (unless you have previously been directed to disable them by a different website).

Some Perspective learning resources need plug-in helpers such as Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave, or Java. See the FAQ section below about Plug-ins for more information.

Why can't I see the learning resource after I select it? What does it mean that a Pop-up window was blocked?

Check that your pop-up blocker software is not preventing a new browser window (with the learning resource) from opening. For more information on disabling pop-up blockers, see the Pop-up Blocking question below.

Why doesn't the calculator display when I click the resource button? Why don't some windows (math chart, periodic table of elements, links to other study guide sections, etc.) work when I click their link?

Calculators, math charts and other resources open in a new browser window. If you can't see a resources after selecting it your browser may be blocking pop-up windows. With Safari 4and other newer browsers their upgrade may automatically turn the pop-up blocker on. Often there is no warning or error message that a pop-up window has been blocked. What are plug-ins?

While your browser can handle many types of files, occasionally it needs a plug-in or helper application to extend it to handle things like audio, video, and animation. Although separate programs, plug-ins literally plug into your browser and give it an extra boost of power to manage more complicated files and make your experience as a user more interesting and interactive. Depending on your browser version, you might need to download a plug-in to view a video, hear an audio file, or play a game. The most commonly used plug-ins are Adobe Acarobat Reader, Flash, and Shockwave. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player, and Shockwave Player from Adobe's website (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/). Java is also needed for some learning resources. You may download Java at: https://www.java.com/en/download/.

When I try to view a report or some learning resources I only get a blank screen.

Some reports and some learning resources are Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Some learning resources are Adobe PDF files or Flash files or Shockwave files. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player, and Shockwave Player from Adobe's website (http://www.adobe.com/downloads/).

What are cookies? Are they bad for my computer?

Cookies are how websites remember who you are. When you come to a site, the site may ask your computer to associate a short line of text with that particular website. This is called "dropping a cookie." Then, when you return to that site, that site can ask for that line of text back. This is called "picking up a cookie." websites usually do this so that you don't have to enter your password every time or so that they know how long it's been since you last visited the site. If you don't want your computer to use cookies, you can turn them off in your browser preferences.

How can I download (save) text from the Perspective website?

The easiest way to save text is to simply highlight it, select Copy from your browser's edit menu, and Paste it into a word processing program.

On the View Learning Resources page, when I change the grade sometimes the subject changes.

Each time the grade is changed the system defaults to the first subject within this grade. Please use the subject drop-down list to select the desired subject.

Sometimes the website does not remember the changes I made.

I enter some text into some fields or check some check boxes; when I return to these screens the text is gone. This problem usually occurs when you use the browser Back button to move from page to page. When using this website you should not use the browser Back button. This is because the Back button only recalls the previous page from memory. Therefore, changes you make on one page are not reflected when you recall a previous page from memory. Please use the links and navigation buttons in the Perspective application to move from screen to screen on this website.

Why does the page not display properly when I use the browser's Back button?

Many of the pages within Perspective contain lists which are generated as you request them. As a result, using the browser's Back and Forward buttons may not generate the page as expected. Move around the Perspective site by using the Perspective navigation controls and links.

Why do pages not display properly when using bookmarking or favorites on the Perspective family site?

Many of the pages within Perspective contain lists which are generated as you request them. As a result, retrieving a page via bookmarking or Favorites may not generate as expected. Please access Perspective by going to the Home Page for the family site or the educator site. Also, move around the Perspective site by using the Perspective navigation controls and links.

Why do I have problems trying to print or save the assignment sheet I have created?

This may occur for a couple different reasons. A. Please keep the 'Page Heading' field under 250 characters. B. Please keep the 'Notes to the Student' field under 2000 characters. C. Be sure you have at least one learning resource selected.

I cannot see the Shockwave files on my Macintosh. When trying to view certain learning resources a new window displays that tells me I have a "missing plugin" or in need to "download and install a plugin."

Some Macintosh computers that use the Intel CPU may have this problem if they do not have the latest version of Shockwave installed. Please visit the Adobe download website (http://www.Adobe.com/downloads) and install the latest version of Shockwave for Macintosh computers running the Intel CPU.

Pearson provides Perspective to certain Education Agencies (including state and district education agencies) pursuant to a contract to provide services for educational assessment programs ("Assessment Programs"). Most features on this Site may only be accessed by educators. This Privacy Policy explains Pearson's policy with respect to the personally identifiable information ("Personal Information") collected through this Site.

Purpose of this Site

Perspective is a learning resource tool that assists educators to improve student performance. Some features of Perspective are designed for and available only to Education Agencies, School Districts and School authorized staff and teachers ("Educators").

The purpose of Perspective for Educators is to provide (a) interpretive information regarding state assessment reports, (b) access and/or upload learning materials, (such as study guides, worksheets, games and tutorials in specific subject areas) and (c) professional development information.

The purpose of Perspective for students is to access learning resources and assignment sheets shared or tagged for the student by an Educator or through a learning locator code on an Individual Student Report.

Access

Access to the Perspective Site related to each Assessment Program is restricted by a pass phrase code. Users authorized by the Education Agency sponsoring such Assessment Program register and create an account using a pass phrase code and a valid email address. Education Agencies are responsible for authorizing Educator access to this Site through sharing the pass phrase code.

Information Collection

This Site is not designed for the collection of Personal Information. The resources, materials and information provided within the Site are available for downloading. Further, Educators may upload any resources, materials and information to Perspective including but not limited to materials from third parties or their own material to Perspective.

Education Agency and School District Personnel: To access certain Educator features of this Site a user must provide an email address, first and last name to create an account.

Students: This website is designed to supply information, and not for collecting information. Although this website offers access to learning materials for students under the age of thirteen (13), this website is intended to supply these resources without collecting any Personal Information from students, including, but not limited to, those under the age of 13. Pearson will not knowingly collect, maintain, or use any Personal Information supplied by anyone under the age of thirteen (13) through this Site.

If Pearson receives inquiries or emails about or through this Site from Educators, Pearson may keep a record of the email, correspondence and comments, including the individual's name, school district or organization name and email address in order to reply to the communication, perform Site support and issue resolution and maintain business records concerning this Site. We may also share this information with the State Department of Education for the state to which this website relates. Users of this Site may send comments, inquiries, or request support in Perspective Support.

Information Access and Correction

Since the Site only collects Personal Information on Educators, to correct any Personal Information an Educator should contact Pearson at Perspective Support.

Information Use or Disclosure

Pearson will use the information provided by Educators to provide access to the Site.

Except for the limited exceptions set forth below, Pearson will not share with, or disclose to, third parties, the names of users or other Personal Information collected through or in connection with this Site. However, Pearson may disclose Personal Information:

As requested or required by the Education Agency for the Assessment Program or the user's school district.
In response to subpoenas, court orders or legal process, to the extent permitted or required by law;
To protect student or user security, or the security of other persons, consistent with applicable laws;

Precautions to be Taken by Users

User information and access to this Site is password protected. All users are urged to keep confidential all user information and passwords. IP Addresses

This Site receives information that is automatically generated by a user's internet service provider (ISP).
